Skip Your Period By Using Continuous Birth Control

Taking hormonal birth control has many benefits. Of course the most common of these is the obvious: preventing pregnancy, but there are many other side benefits, some of which they are used specifically for, beyond the contraceptive properties.

The pill, the patch and the ring all have one thing in common: They introduce hormones into the system in order to prevent ovulation. There are many different formulas with higher and lower doses of different hormones, but the results are generally the same. And this type of birth control is highly effective when taken as recommended.

But what are some of the other benefits of taking the pill? For some people who experience very heavy bleeding and painful periods, taking the pill can help to regulate them and decrease their severity. Some versions of the pill are known to help clear up acne. And one other surprising possible result of taking birth control is skipping periods!

Continuous birth control is a method of using hormonal contraceptives to prevent your period from coming. Of course with normal use your period will occur very regularly. Normally the hormones are given steadily for three weeks and then stopped completely for the fourth week, which causes or allows you to have a period.

Some birth control pills use varying amounts and types of hormones in during each of the three weeks and others have the same formula for the full three weeks. It is this latter kind that can be taken continuously to skip a period.

Instead of taking the placebo pills, you continue on with the next package, still taking the active pills. While taking these you will not have a period. This is a wonderful thing for many reasons. Some women have periods so heavy and difficult that they need to stop having them, or to have them less frequently.

Also, with continuous birth control you can stop your period from coming if you are having a special occasion. For example, say you are planning a vacation. You definitely don’t want to be trying to have fun while having your period, especially if you plan to spend a lot of time in a bathing suit. Just take your active pills for the week you normally take the placebo pills and you shouldn’t have a period at all!

Using continuous birth control is not a good idea if you have the wrong type, as you are likely to have spotting. Also, you can use this method for a few months at a time, but you should not go more than that without taking a round of inactive pills so that you have a period.

Hormonal contraception is excellent for many reasons. It allows you control over whether or not you get pregnant, but continuous birth control use can also help you have some control over whether or not you have a period. Now what woman doesn’t want that?
