Getting Pregnant On Birth Control

It is absolutely possible to become pregnant on birth control. What a comforting statement! Unfortunately it is a true one, although most birth control methods have a very high effectiveness rate. Still, most are not one hundred percent effective, meaning there is always a chance, however slight of you getting pregnant on birth control.

What are the factors that will cause you to become pregnant, even while using birth control? Well, the number one problem that arises is human error. By this we are talking about YOUR human error. In most cases, if you become pregnant while on birth control, it is at least partially your own fault!

Most methods of birth control that require you to do something such as take a pill, put on a patch or condom or diaphragm etc., are said to be about ninety nine percent effective. This is only considering you follow the directions perfectly. In reality a percentage of people do not follow them, resulting in pregnancy and lowering the effectiveness rate to closer to ninety five percent!

If you skip pills or take them at the wrong times, you are increasing your chances of getting pregnant on birth control. This is why you should have a well established routine to help you be sure to take the pill at the same time every day so you will not forget.

If you should become pregnant while on birth control pills stop taking the pills right away. Most likely they will not harm your baby, but it is definitely better to stop taking them, especially since you don’t actually need them once you are pregnant anyway.

Another thing that can cause you to become pregnant, even while using contraception is drug interaction. The pill delivers hormones which cause your body to respond in a certain way, by not ovulating. As with other hormones, certain drugs can cause them to work differently or to be weaker or to not work at all.

Before taking any medication, make sure it is safe to take with birth control pills. For example the antibiotics birth control combination can be a bad one, causing your birth control to be less effective. Be sure to tell your doctor you are on birth control so he can prescribe a type of antibiotics that is more compatible with the pill.

Getting pregnant on birth control is something that happens. If it happens to you, it is best to move forward without regrets. If it hasn’t happened to you, remember that how you use your birth control will greatly affect the level of effectiveness in preventing pregnancy! Carefully read instructions or follow your doctor’s advice for the most effective birth control!
